Tuesday Nights 6:30pm - 8:30pm

YTH Worship 101

YTH Worship 101 is a multi-year development program designed for students who are interested in growing in worship. It is open to students in 8th–12th grade who have musical gifts and a desire to develop their skills, deepen their understanding of worship, and learn what it means to lead others in worship. Some of the topics we will cover in class are:

  • How we worship
  • Why we worship
  • How to play as a band
  • How to produce a worship service
  • And a whole lot of other stuff, as well 😊

We will meet once a week on Tuesday nights, 6:30pm to 8:30pm, in the church worship center.

CG Youth Worship 101 is a place for students to grow as worshipers and leaders. Together, students will explore what the Bible teaches about worship, why we worship, and what it means to live a life of worship both on and off the stage. Students will also develop practical skills through worshiping together, learning music and production basics, building worship sets, and growing as a team. Our hope is to equip students to confidently and humbly lead their peers in worship. Worship 101 is open to students with some musical experience on an instrument or vocals, as well as students interested in learning the production side of worship, including sound and ProPresenter.

Student Expectations

  • Stay connected. Consistent participation in CG Youth and Worship 101 helps you grow spiritually, build relationships, and develop as part of the team.
  • Be ready to lead. As students grow and develop through Worship 101, they will have opportunities to help lead worship during CG Youth Wednesday nights.
  • Dress with purpose. Choose clothing that allows the focus to stay on Jesus and not become a distraction. If you’re unsure, ask a leader.
  • Communication matters. Stay connected and keep up with important information and updates through Church Center and Slack.
  • Come prepared. Practice ahead of time and arrive ready to learn, participate, and grow each week.
  • Bring what you need. Band members should provide their own earbuds and instruments when applicable. Keys and drums are provided by Common Ground.
  • Be willing to grow. Growth often means stepping outside of your comfort zone. Come ready to try new things, receive feedback, make mistakes, and keep learning. Leadership grows as we learn.
  • Let God’s Word lead. Be willing to learn from Scripture and receive guidance from the leaders God has placed around you.
  • Grow in your relationship with Jesus. Make time outside of Worship 101 to know Jesus personally through prayer, Scripture, and time with Him.
  • Be part of the vision. Understand and support the heart, mission, and values of Common Ground Church and CG Youth.

Your Instructors

Tim and Bethany have been serving in worship ministry for over 25 years. Having their passion for music and for the Lord ignited while in youth ministry, Tim and Bethany both pursued musical training and a greater understanding of church worship. They desire to live a life that brings honor to Jesus and helping to encourage and raise up young worshippers in awe of Christ is a part of that desire. They currently serve on Common Ground’s Sunday worship team under Jimmy Aragon.
